Thread Veins FAQs
Thread veins are caused by blood vessels in the skin becoming permanently dilated. Vasodilation is the result of the muscular walls of vessels relaxing and becoming more open.
Yes, using cauterisation or laser treatment. We use ACP (an advanced form of electrolysis) that involves using a probe with a current emitted to the end of it, by tapping this against the skin, the dilated vein is cauterised causing it to close.
No, thread veins are not damaging to your health in any way. Many people choose to have them removed to improve their self confidence.
Thread veins are caused by blood vessels in the skin becoming permanently dilated. Vasodilation is the result of the muscular walls of vessels relaxing and becoming more open.
Thread veins can appear for many reasons including;
Sun damage
Age
Rosacea or other vascular skin conditions
Thinned skin
Work/lifestyle (they are common in people who work outside)
Temperature fluctuations (causing repeated vasoconstriction/vasodilation)
ACP (advanced electrolysis) involves using a probe with a current emitted to the end of it, by tapping this against the skin the dilated vein is cauterised causing it to close with minimal downtime. It is a safe treatment to be performed on all skin types and skin colours. You can have ACP anywhere on the upper body, however it is not suitable for treatment on the legs as these veins tend to be deeper and will require laser treatment or sclerotherapy.
Some medical/cosmeceutical grade skin care can reduce the appearance of thread veins but it is unlikely to completely remove them. For the best results ACP blemish removal or laser treatment is recommended.
Thread veins are small clusters of purple, red or blue veins that typically appear across the face and legs.
Sun damaged skin – Years of sun exposure can cause you to be more prone to developing thread veins
Age – Thread veins can become more apparent as you age due to the skin becoming thinner and as a result of years of sun damage
Rosacea – If you have a pre existing vascular skin condition such as rosacea you are very likely to have visible thread veins
Thinned skin – Thinning skin can cause veins that are deeper in the skin to become more apparent on the surface of the skin
Work/lifestyle – Thread veins are very common if you work outdoors due to being exposed to the elements
Temperature fluctuations – Having regular temperature changes causes repeated vasoconstriction and vasodilation, resulting in the veins becoming permanently dilated and visible on the surface of the skin
Use a high factor, broad spectrum SPF everyday. Try to avoid regular temperature changes by wearing a scar when going out in cold weather and keeping cool in hot weather.
