What are skin tags?

Skin tags are small, soft, skin-coloured growths on the skin. They vary in colour and size from a few millimetres up to 5cm wide. They typically occur in areas where skin friction is common including the underarms, inner thighs, eyelids and neck. They are not dangerous but can be very annoying and uncomfortable if they get caught. It is important if you are unsure to check with your doctor as moles can commonly be mistaken for skin tags.

What can you do to prevent and remove skin tags?

  • Try to avoid skin friction such as shirt collars and necklaces
  • You can tie a piece of thread around them and leave it for a few days to kill the blood supply
  • DO NOT try and cut them off yourself at home
  • Cauterisation – We use ACP (an advanced form of electrolysis) that involves using a probe with a current emitted to the end of it, by tapping this against the neck of the skin tag it cauterises, removing it instantly without bleeding
